The bus is fixed, no one’s stuck inside of Mobile today and we are all charging New Orleans soon, but first, a quick little rundown of night 2 is absolutely in order.
The Soul Kitchen for sure went up last night and those strange sightings over the bay can be attributed to the motherships hover. We got started with the first time played Cass County, Texas born Nat Stuckey boogie woogie blast Sweet Thang & Cisco. FTP’s are always fun but this one was special and lead us into a very mellow first set. That jam we’ve been expecting to evolve out of Blue Star Woman is starting to show it’s beautiful soul and last night it was bigger than any before. What a song that’s turned into fast. Tears fell in Sweet Sweet Lullaby and Lazy Days set us up for the NOLA BBQ later today.
The second set was a completely psychedelic 180 from the first. New Cannonball fired with a fury and even ended with a little Bang A Gong (Get It On) riff tease from Neal on the outro jam. Behold The Seer, just as I mentioned about the first nights, is just unstoppable and I think it’s going to be a CRB calling card very soon. Dig it. Train Robbers had its amazing imagery as always and the take off ending triggered the real deep space stuff as Meanwhile went tumbling gracefully off the star charts. We disappeared into an ancient wormhole and landed in a familiar cosmic chapel for a California Hymn that twisted and stretched like a handled serpent into the funk and fire of Narcissus. The big rave up was Hard To Handle that peaked so many times I lost track of where I was in the groove. The slow country sway of There Won’t Be Anymore was the perfect comedown and everyone was hugs and smiles as we head for New Orleans today and crash on the levee tonight.
Travel safe freaks! See ya soon
