Recently I made a post regarding the best CRB show... and how debating the best it's like debating if Cornell 77 is the best Grateful Dead show.

This beer was picked up last year and i have patiently waited 1 year to drink it. It still tastes great. This is from @laguna_beach_beer , and it's called Scarlet>Fire.

From 2011 to 2019 the Chris Robinson Brotherhood played hundreds of concerts. I have personally listened to several hundred of them. I have assisted in the mixing and bouncing of the shows, uploading them to nugs.... and I've been asked countless times to name my favorite shows. There is no way to name just one. I can name several I do love though.. Recently though I pulled 6 soundboards from 2016 I had not heard before. In that bundle, was what I would consider one of the top 3 CRB shows of all time. That show, is 4/19/16, from the Eureka Theater.
Muddy had left the band at this point, and Jeff was not on board until 6/3. So George Reiff was sitting in to handle the low end.
Where do I start? When you mention the best Grateful Dead show ever, you get debate over Veneta, or Cornell 77, or Fillmore East 1970...
For the CRB, this one is off the charts. Was it that Adam and Neal felt they had to step up for this near-hometown show, in the absence of a solid 3rd background vocalist to Chris? I don't know.
But the music is pure, unadulterated magic and mastery. Every jam is perfect. Every note played, was necessary. The vocals are beyond stellar. The jams, are atmospheric and stratospheric.
In the set, you have the VERY FIRST Forever as the Moon & The THIRD California Hymn.
I focus on intonation a lot. I like to hear songs evolve. These early incarnations, Neal sings so clearly but so differently, that they just ooze drip and weep with emotion. I have listened to this show at least 30 times in the last several weeks. Sometimes twice a day.

One of my favorite things to do is collect pictures from the CRB and side project bands from each of the shows. They're catalogued, tagged, put in folders, associated with the sound boards of that day.. and I'll revisit them often.
Putting them out there and seeing people enjoy them in an easy fashion, is the best reward though. There's about 25K photos in the archives now! Check them out!

I recently came across the soundboard from 7-19-14, at Targhee Music Festival 2014. I hadn't listened to this one ever before, as I don't tend to choose or favor the short 1-set shows. This one was a great surprise though. Great music with great energy. Check the set list, posted here among the pictures.

As for the pictures... as I was listening to the music I went back and looked and realized that there were no pictures from this date in the archive. About 40 minutes of searching back through instagram, scrolling back through feeds to 2014, and I was able to dig some up!
What a show! Appearances at the festival were made by CRB, Hard Working Americans, Nikki Bluhm, Tedeschi Trucks, Joan Osborne, Jackie Greene and so many more!

I will be posting about what I consider to be possibly the best CRB show I've ever heard... and I've heard almost all of them. Stay tuned! When you see which show, maybe you too will yell out some jubilant exclamation.. like....maybe..."Eureka!"
But much like this show, I have absolutely NO photos from this greatest of the greats. So I'll be calling on you... dig out those old flip phones, and those dusty blackberrys and track down a reader for your old memory sticks!

Chris Robinson Brotherhood - 3/28/11

12 Years ago today, 5 guys took the stage at the Echoplex to play their first live show together. Just over 8 years later their first incarnations would be put on the shelf, but what they left behind were hundreds of soundboards, thousands of images, and millions of smiles.

Photos from the early days of the band are difficult to come by as cell phones weren't as advanced as today. So as the Almanac continues to look for folks with pictures to share... please enjoy these from that first night.
