Lyrics

I Ain't Hiding

Rust on my pickups
And blood on the stage
Seeds in the ashtray
And coke on the blade
N-Y-C delivers that’s a guarantee
The only thing that keep the day from me
Line at the bathroom
Line at the bar
Take it outside and do the rest in the car
Our candy baby’s in a bright light fright
Rock and roll rat race everybody’s uptight
That’s right
Ain’t your saint, ain’t your enemy
I’m a long shadow on the highway
I know this ain’t how it’s supposed to be
Baby I ain’t hiding
Stayed on the dance floor cause you can’t find the door
Can’t run out cause there is always more
Keep on rocking cause it’s not even four
Turn up the bass until your ears get sore

Ain’t your saint, ain’t your enemy
I’m a long shadow on the highway
I know this ain’t how it’s supposed to be
Baby I ain’t hiding

I ain’t your saint, ain’t your enemy
I’m a long shadow on the highway
I know this ain’t how it’s supposed to be
Baby I ain’t hiding
Baby I ain’t hiding
Baby I ain’t hiding
Baby I ain’t
Baby I ain’t hiding

Got Love If You Want It

I got love if you want it baby
I got love if you want it
I got love if you want it
I got love if you want it
I got love if you want it
You just wait a little while

Quit teasing me baby
Quit teasing me baby
With your sly round frame
With your sly round frame

Let me love you, love you baby
I’ll be your loving man
I’ll be your loving man

Try my next door baby
Try my next door baby
If you can do things right
If you can do things right

Don’t worry nobody
Then it’s already time
Then it’s already time

I love you little woman
I love you little woman
Want to let it do myself
Want to let it do myself

That you mistreat me baby
Love from someone else
Love from someone else

I love you little woman
I love you little woman
With my head hung down
With my head hung down

I know you’ll be gone darling
Talk all over town
Talk all over town

Clear Blue Sky & The Good Doctor

If you find a yourself in a boxcar baby
Then you got rails to ride, You got rails to ride
But from love you cannot hide

If you wake up thirsty on some dry Monday
But Sunday wants back the well
Sunday wants back the well
Like the hole wants back the pail

Leaning into a sideways rain
Waiting for the better days
I’m down from the mountaintop
Man has my view changed
Won’t you let me stare into your
dark and roving eyes
Won’t you take me by the hand
to your clear blue sky

And sometimes it’s raining in West Virgina
And some ones missing someone in Omaha
And sometimes LA, Is the darkest trip of all

If the song you sing can’t make you happy
Then you really got the blues
You really got the blues
The only game that you can lose

Leaning into a sideways rain
Waiting for the better days
I’m down from the mountaintop
Man has my view changed
Won’t you let me stare into your
dark and roving eyes
Won’t you take me by the hand
to your clear blue sky

And as the sun comes up this morning
Same old charcoal grey sky friend
A blood red ambulance is screaming
Up 6th avenue again
These things happen without warning
Just like sadness, just like rain
The navigator has lost all feeling
And the good doctor has gone insane

The Music's Hot

One foot in the grave
Gave a great big shout
St. Peter I can’t go tonight
They got a brand new rock n roll record out

Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

Music’s Hot there ain’t no doubt
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

Leave that long hot yellin on earth
All you’re gonna need is six feet of earth.
St. Peter showed me my two stones
and said, Dig this cat this time you’re really going

Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

Music’s Hot there ain’t no doubt
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

Wait a minute death, I’ve lived a good life
Uh-uh son, you been cheating on your wife
Wait a minute better take it slow
He said come on cat let’s go go go

Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

Music’s Hot there ain’t no doubt
Son where are you going?
Where the Music’s Hot!

You Old Friend Of Mine

Find Your Meadow, Find Your Way
When You Speak Be Sure What You Say
Say What You Feel And Throw The Rest Away
Throw The Rest Away

Polly Put The Kettle On
It’s Been Morning Now For Days
There’s A Rooster In The Kitchen
Who Says He Ain’t Been Paid
I Surely Would Oblige Him
For I Am A Honest Soul
But There’s Something In His Pleading
And Frankly I’m Not Sold

Find Your Shadow, Slip Away
When You Speak, Be Sure What You Say
Say What You Feel, Throw The Rest Away
Throw The Rest Away, Throw The Rest Away

It’s A Long Road Around My Love
Be On Your Way, By Water, By Star
A Cold North Wind Brings The Day
A Change In The Air
Now We See Far
It’s True A Pack Of Lies
Try To Drag You Down
In The Heart Of Sadness
There Is A Lonely Sound

Alive As You Or I
If These Days Were Any Sweeter
They’d Be Peach Blossom Wine
It’s Hard To Find A Sinner
At The Break The Of Dawn
If You Don’t Know Where That Is
Just Listen To This Song

Find Your Meadow, Find Your Way
When You Speak Be Sure What You Say
Say What You Feel And Throw The Rest Away
Throw The Rest Away
Throw The Rest Away…

I'm A Hog For You

I’m a hog for you, baby
Can’t get enough of your love
When I go to sleep at night
That’s what I’m dreaming of
One little piggie went to London
One little piggie went to Hong Kong
This little piggie’s comin’ over your house

One little piggie ate pizza
One little piggie ate potato chips
This little piggie’s comin’ over your house
Gonna nibble on  your sweet lips

When I go to sleep at night that’s the only thing I’m dreaming of

Oak Apple Day

Oak apple day chase’n the blues away
The cobblestone kids are back again throwing colors on the wind
Cosmos and plough look who’s smiling now
The lord of candles has lost his way
He can’t see in the light of day

Arrive and enter, awake and believe
It’s come’n on strong but I’m feeling fine
Dip a’little of your cake in my wine
Round here we got nothing but time
So won’t you dream with me

Those low tide days
Blues backing up the drain
Made of midnights made of mistakes
Don’t forget a few lucky breaks
Stargazer fool now what will you do
The turncoats have all run away
Let the road ahead show you the way

Arrive and enter, awake and believe
It’s come’n on strong but I’m feeling fine
Dip a’little of your cake in my wine
Round here we got nothing but time
So won’t you dream with me

Devil black burning angel bright
Cassiopeia won’t you come out tonight
Cross my palm with silver, curse my heart with love
Make my below become high above

Oak apple day let fate’s fiddle play
Even if it’s out of key that will be okay with me
Arrive and enter, awake and believe
It’s come’n on strong but I’m feeling fine
Dip a little of your cake in my wine
Round here we got nothing but time
So won’t you dream with me

Get Out Of My Life Woman

Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more
Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more
Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more
Get out my eyes, teardrops; I gotta see my way around
Get out my eyes, teardrops; I gotta see my way around
Get out my life, heartache; nothin’ but heartache by the pound
Get off the ladder, woman; I’ve got to climb up to the top
Get off the ladder, woman; I’ve got to climb up to the top
Get off the ladder, woman; there is nothin’ gonna make me stop
Get out my way, woman; I gotta be movin’ on
Get out the way, woman; I gotta be movin’ on
Get out the way, woman; I gotta be movin’ on
Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more
Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more
Get out my life, woman; you don’t love me no more

Ride

People get ready to ride
Children gather round and listen
The wind is blowing mystic sounds around
And entertain this magic notion
Don’t let the frowns get you down
No
Confusion is no union
I’ve come to this conclusion
Just thought I’d lay it down
Yeah

People get ready to ride
People get ready to ride

Listen y’all
Rid yourself of disbeliefs
Become a star
Become a seeker
That love show you the way
You know somewhere
The bells are ringing
People dancing
People singing
Bring it on
The golden day
And if you’re willing
You can join them
Just close your eyes
And let the song take you away
And don’t look back
Don’t try and stop it
Keep pushing on
Live in the moment
Yeah
Right on
Like I said
Like I say

The road to the unknown
Has led you back home
From the center of the storm
You have been reborn

People get ready to ride
People get ready to ride

Tales Of Thunder Teeth

Girl I Love You

Ain’t no love, ain’t no love, like my baby’s love.
It’s like burnin’ fire, set off in my bones.
Ain’t no lonely days, ain’t no lonely nights.
Every little thing that she does,
You know the girl’s alright.
Cause I ain’t never, never, found me a girl,
Love me like you do, to love me like you do.

Ain’t no man, ain’t no man, go a little woman like me.
You got all the lovin’ baby, what a sweet girl can claim.
You’re every poor boys dream, you’re every poor boys dream,
More than you’re every rich mans friend.
Whoa but I’m gonna give you all my money honey,
If you’ll stay right there,
Cause I ain’t never, never, found me a girl,
Love me like you do, to love me like you do.

Cause I ain’t never, never, found me a girl,
Love me like you do, to love me like you do.
Cause I ain’t never, never, found me a girl,
Love me like you do, to love me like you do

She Belongs To Me

She’s got everything she needs, she’s an artist
She don’t look back
She’s got everything she needs, she’s an artist
She don’t look back
She can take the dark out of the nighttime
And paint the daytime black

You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
But you’ll wind up peeking through her keyhole
Down upon your knees

She never stumbles, she’s got no place to fall
She never stumbles, she’s got no place to fall
She’s nobody’s child, the Law can’t touch her at all

She wears an Egyptian ring that sparkles before she speaks
She wears an Egyptian ring that sparkles before she speaks
She’s a hypnotist collector, you are a walking antique.

Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
For Halloween give her a trumpet
And for Christmas, buy her a drum

Boppin' The Blues

Well, all my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
All my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
I love you baby, but I must be rhythm bound
Well, the doctor told me, Carl you don’t need no pill
Yeah, the doctor told me, boy you don’t need no pill
Just a handful of nickels
The jukebox will cure your ill
Well, all my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
All them cats is boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
I love you baby, I must be rhythm bound
Well, the old cat bug bit me, man I don’t feel no pain
Yeah, that jitterbug caught me, man I don’t feel no pain
I still love you baby
But I’ll never be the same
I said, all my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
All my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
I love you baby, but I must be rhythm bound
(Get it cats, let’s rock)
Well, all my friends are boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
All them cats is boppin’ the blues
It must be going ’round
I love you baby, but I must be rhythm bound
Well, grandpa done got rhythm
And he threw his crutches down
Oh, the old boy done got rhythm and blues
And he threw that crutches down
Grandma he ain’t triflin’
Well, the old boy’s rhythm bound
All them cats is rockin’ the blues
And it must be going ’round
All my friends are boppin’ the blues
And it must be going ’round
I love you baby, I must be rhythm bound
(Bop, cat, bop!)
Rock, bop, rhythm and blues
Rock, bop, rhythm and blues
Rock, rock, rhythm and blues, bop!
Rock, bop, rhythm and blues
Rhythm and blues, it must be going ’round

Badlands Here We Come

These black eyed dandelions
Have a taste for sweet
Never sharing with the dogs
Some are born to vanity
They see six but I see three
Who keeps marking on my walls?
Forever is an August choked with dirty weeds
Dreaming some foggy dawn
Sometimes you leave the sunshine
And sometimes it leaves you
Just a reaction to the cold

Now the brambles have all gone dry
Burnt and blackened by the sun
Into this darkling away let’s fly
Badlands here we come
Badlands, Badlands here we come

There’s words you say in bedrooms
Words you say when lost a sea
What will your truth become
And if my words were daggers
There’d be nothing to repeat
Just a cop telling people “move along”

Now the brambles have all gone dry
Burnt and blackened by the sun
Into this darkling away let’s fly
Badlands here we come
Badlands, Badlands here we come

Another jewel in the outlaws crown
Another weary memory
Something wicked has rolled into town
New rope swinging in the breeze

In the space between black and sky
In this hollows purple eve
Behind a screen door bids goodbye
Incantations to believe

The coward counts his money
In the back room of his soul
A dirty end to a darker need
The singer can’t stop cry’n
Though he never stops his song
Sing along, sing along
Sing along, sing along

Jump The Turnstiles

Smoke ring halos, feet made of clay
Open spaces and narrow ways
Nightbird cry’n at the end of an age
White leather gloves lay the saint in his grave
Hung on a rusty nail in the back room of a
Nickel a dance pass the jug around
The devil’s plain lazy if he don’t bust out
No one’s a stranger when it’s raining outside
If there’s a hole in your shoe then come on inside

Do you know how you feel?
Are you that far gone inside?
Let love make it real
Come on let’s jump the turnstile

Bag full of beads, black tongue divine
Let go the rabbit by the pale moon light
Don’t stoke the fire with paper hands
To build you a boat you need a little dry land

Do you know how you feel?
Are you that far gone inside?
Let love make it real
Come on let’s jump the turnstile

Soft grass lullabies
In the cinnamon sunshine
Rose pedal soft, sickly sweet
Love sick Charlie and tear drop Molly
Just jumped out of their seats

Euphoria dancing, dripping chandeliers
Flatfooted shufflers or those well heeled
Call my mind diamond
Call my heart gold
Call me gone and off down the road
Call me gone and off down the road

Star Or Stone

I was 13th at the table
when the wine was passed around
Amid an air of suspicion
my glance was meet with callous frowns
If I was superstitious I’d be the black cat
no one wants hang’n round
Dark whispers in the hallway
accusations out of bitter mouths
Strange figures in the doorway
a dog barks a drunkard’s laugh
There’s screaming in the kitchen
glass breaks just then the lights go out
Let winter chase butterflies
Let the child believe in lies
Let the road run by my door
I can’t stay here anymore

I won’t, I won’t look back at my dream
burning on the side of the road
Sometimes it just goes like that
Falling or flying , star or stone

Close the window
I just can’t hear the highway anymore
Lay beside me
and let our fires burn until the dawn

A telephone was ringing
a heavy price on the other line
Outside the window
a comet shoots across the sky
Between love and hope and money
There’s loss and pain and honey
So take a spoonful every time
And if you don’t like what you see
Don’t come running to me
Cause I’m bound to my own way
I’m a million miles away

I won’t, I won’t look back at my dream
burning on the side of the road
Sometimes it just goes like that
Falling or flying , star or stone

Meanwhile In The Gods...

Older than the mountain
Younger that this day
Barefoot dreaming
Sleeping children dance a figure 8
Lost soft velvet in a state of decay
Sweet tooth youth could take the abuse
But not stand the cage
If it don’t move it, loose it, lay it down
Pick it up when the next one comes around
Find good reason to make great cheer
Find time to mention the other dimensions
The highest sphere
Magic makes the circle, morning makes the day
Love from the sky, love from the mud
And the words you say

Is that an arrow thru your hand
A road nailed to your feet
Have a go off the fat of the land
And find gold in the fleece
Yes love is hard to find
And in the Gods they stand and cheer
Throwing flowers on the stage

The sun don’t shine thru a buzzards wings
Hollow or whole, skin or bone, twig or leaf
Come like a lion and you leave like a lamb
To seek and wander, to hear the thunder
To understand

Is that an arrow thru your hand
A road nailed to your feet
Have a go off the fat of the land
And find gold in the fleece
Yes love is hard to find
And in the Gods they stand and cheer
Throwing flowers on the stage

Let me ease your mind
Won’t you lend your burden my shoulder
The sun waits outside
To light the way of yonder
For people born to wonder

I asked for bread she brought me a bird
I let it go without saying a word
She kissed my mind and I understood
Sometimes things work this way

Tulsa Yesterday

Tulsa yesterday tomorrow forever
Today I think I’ll take my own sweet time
You can tell by my blues that I’m no beginner
Or just look into my eyes
I learned my lessons in the days back in the dogwood
Left some footprints in the deep red clay
Found my way past the temptations of plenty
Let the sound take me all the way
It’s a low down dirty sorrow
To know the real pain of love
Somethings you own some you borrow
Until you let it go
Find a garden let it grow
And what you find
Let it shine
Let your chariot swing low

West wind blow my blood runs cold from to much trouble
West wind blow howl thru my bones tonight

Tulsa yesterday tomorrow forever
Today I think I’ll take my own sweet time
You can tell by my shoes that I am a believer
Or just look into my eyes

One Hundred Days Of Rain

Pacific standard time, Georgia state line
Thread the needle, riddle my rhyme
Come knock on my door

The fools finger wears the crown
Time to tie, your ribbons round
Around the sun, around the moon
Around our Love

100 days of rain in front of me
I’ve been thru this storm before
Blow a kiss and wave goodbye to me
Soon I’ll be outside your door

Pick an apple, bruise a peach
You can’t learn, if you can’t teach
This ain’t dinner, it’s a feast
Just like old Levi

Hangin’ on to the hangin’ on
You can’t make right unless you know wrong
Can’t change what’s been done
Unless you’re the one, To let bygones be gone

Sister diamond child,
come take my mind and wonder
Stay with me, until the stars refuse to shine
Be my dream thru sweet silver slumber
Let me fall asleep on your floor

Pacific Standard time, Georgia State line
You ain’t tryin’ if it ain’t a crime
So smiles the judge

Beggar's Moon

A beggars moon, Enough to light my way
Sieve & scissors, Dogtooth sisters, Snow & rain
Laid down in a dark wood dreaming
Woke up to the sunlight streaming down
Through the redwood trees
Lazy bones, Pinky rings
Stale champagne & an empty bed
For the comedown king
Blood from a cherry, Sand from a rose
Do what you will or do what your told
Just don’t, ask me to name names

Drain that barrel, Fill that pipe
Let the big red head do her dance all night
Backbeat mama make you feel all right
Groove’n it loose when I’m getting to tight
And in the dark days
When’s there’s a cold on the ground
Black water churning
Beckoning you come down
Hitched my ride to the Showboat Queen
Went overboard in New Orleans
Good lord will’n, That sun gonna rise and
Shine a light on this mystery

Faded days, Lunar & suede
Dreamless night in the white walled room
of no escape

Thoughts in a tangle love for a loss
Stars on the ceiling coins to be tossed
And bones, to be laid away

Torn from love, left in disgrace
Hunted & haunted but still with a smile
on my face

Angry sun, turquoise sky
Silver tears the longest spoon the whitest lie
Look down your noses build more fences
The will is the wisdom to come to our senses
And see the open space inside

Shore Power

Something like love
Takes a lot of hurt to learn
No stone left unturned
And the fire on the mountain burns

What did you get hold of?
Was it too much yesterday
Dropped out hidden away
Left you with the bill to pay

Burned out faded away
Sideways, backwards, straight ahead
It’s all the same
It must be hard to play a lonely guitar
When no one remembers anyway

Of all the things to choose from
Why a pair of dusty wings
Some old sad songs to sing
And a kitchen that is never clean

From a maze, to a mist to a place like this
From a hole, to a star where ever you are
Burned out faded away
Sideways, backwards, straight ahead
It’s all the same
It must be hard to play a lonely guitar
When no one remembers anyway

Rat trap, New York City
That finger came with a gold splinter in it
Satin shoes tip toe thru the eves
Who spilled pollen on my sleeves

Something like love
Takes a lot of hurt to learn
No stone left unturned
And the fire on the mountain burns

From a maze, to a mist to a place like this
From a hole, to a star where ever you are
In a daze, from a haze, in the highest way

Burned out faded away
Sideways, backwards, straight ahead
It’s all the same
It must be hard to play a lonely guitar
When no one remembers anyway
It must be hard to play a lonely guitar
When no one remembers anyway
Well nobody, no one

Big River

Well I taught that weeping willow how to cry cry cry,
Taught the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky.
Tears I cried for that woman are gonna flood you big river,
And I’m a gonna sit right here until I die.
I met her accidentally in st. Paul, Minnesota,
She tore me up everything I heard her drawl, that southern drawl.
Well I heard my dream went back downstream, cavortin’ in davenport,
And I follow you big river when you called.
Well I followed her down to st. Louie, later on down the river,
Trader said she’s been here, but she’s gone, boy, she’s gone.
Well I followed her down to Memphis, but she just walked off the bus,
She raised a few eyebrows and she went on down alone.
Well I’ve gotten on down to baton rouge, river queen roll on,
Take that woman down to new Orleans, new Orleans.
I give up, I’ve had enough, followed my blues on down to the gulf,
She loves you big river more than me.

Catfish John

Mama said, Don’t go near that river,
Don’t be hanging around old Catfish John
Come in the morning I’d always be there,
Walking in his footsteps in the sweet Delta dawn.
Take me back to another morning, to a time so long ago,
When the sweet magnolia blossomed, cotton fields as white as snow.
Catfish John was a river hobo who lived and died by the river’s bed,
Looking back I still remember I was proud to be his friend.
Mama said, Don’t go near that river,
Don’t be hanging around old Catfish John
Come in the morning I’d always be there,
Walking in his footsteps in the sweet Delta dawn.
Born a slave in the town of Vicksburg, traded for a chestnut mare,
Lord her never spoke in anger though his load was hard to bear.
Mama said, “Don’t go near that river,
Come in the morning I’d always be there,
Walking in his footsteps in the sweet Delta dawn.
Walking in his footsteps in the sweet Delta dawn.
