And all the cosmic children raised their hands, for they were Freaks among their kind….
Social media is the glue that holds the modern world together in communication and camaraderie. It is the source of news for the bands and the communities. It is the place to meet new friends before going to the show, or catch up with folks you went to the show with in the past.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood Gramercy Theatre - New York, NY 2/21/2015 - 9 Years Today
I was gonna make a post today about the 2/21/19 show in El Chico, CA... back at the El Rey.. But I just can't stop listening to these Gramercy shows from 2015. So here's day #2, 2/21/15. Sitting here with the house filled with the sweet sounds of Tumbleweed in Eden. This is just another fantastic set, with another 2 cover encore... man I just LOVE when CRB covered Otis Redding's That's How Strong My Love Is. These are 2 *GREAT* nights to catch yourself up on. 😉
The annual ornament exchange thrown at the Almanc for the past several years is a great way to see all the amazing creativity in the Freak Family. But I gotta say, one of these last pictures sure is at the top. Check out the floor mat that Michael Goldstein had made!!!! INCREDIBLE.
Also loving the picture of Chris and Muddy, by Annie Atlasman.
OK so this was a quick message. Celebrate the past, look forward to the future. Now let me hurry back to these Gramercy soundboards, these things are SWEET.
The eight years this band existed was pretty special. Certainly seems like an alternate universe.
Love these little flashbacks you post.... I keep going to as many shows as I can, looking for that same CRB magic. It's out there but only in the stars.......Keep holding up the flame brother
I need a copy of this show
I was at this amazing show! It was a beautiful snowy night in NYC. I have this show on my phone and listen to it frequently! Other than Betty’s Blend Vol 1, this is my go to CRB show to groove to.
I live in Indiana and never went to show but did purchase the second show on cd. Wish I'd also purchased the first show now.
Speaking of Neal and Adam: Been listening to some live CATS myself as of late. One show always stands out to me: June 2019 Brooklyn Bowl. In my opinion Neal has never played better...which I know is saying a lot. He was in a different stratosphere. Please, CRB heads, give that CATS show in particular a listen.
Are these shows available for a listen anywhere?
Sure wish all these great shows were on nugs to enjoy.
Wish this band would come back. Hard to replace Neal … but, man I miss this sound
Was a super fun run, almost felt like a 3 night run when taking the Paramount show on Long Island on 2/19 into account. I’ll take the 📸 credit for the B&W photo shared here 😎.
Loved when Peacepipe was still being used - cool guitar. Maybe not as awesome as Neal’s Scott Walker Custom Guitars, but a beauty.
Chris Robinson Brotherhood The Gramercy New York, NY 2/20/2015
Been super busy lately but never too busy to revisit an old favorite. 9 years ago today was night #1 of a 2 night stand at the Gramercy in New York City.
The guys rolled into town, rolled one (or a few) up, and rolled through an amazing 2 sets, with a double-cover encore. You knew it was gonna be Rockin' Tonight when they opened the show with it. Tornado, Meanwhile, Tulsa... it was all kinds of old school solid rock fun for set #1.
Set #2, hot as lava. Check out the Clear Blue Sky into West LA Fadeaway, into VLS! DAMN!!!!!! This is a great night. The encore rounds out a firestarter of a night, with Hard Rain Gonna Fall, and the 2nd Dead cover of the night, Bertha.
Great photos here courtesy of @marcmillmanphotos. This was also the #12 review in the Almanac reviews, written back in 2016! Check that out.
Tomorrow starts a run of shows from 2019 that I've been digging into the soundboards from. Great stuff from the winter run through Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Montana. If you want to hear them you'll want to stick around and do that thing you do. Tomorrow, though. Not today.
Today, enjoy these pictures, and listen to some tunes. Upcoming posts regarding the GospelbeacH album, and we're making plans to get the new Beachwood Sparks (produced by Chris Robinson) out onto the streets really soon! Gonna be awesome!!!
Enjoy what's left of your February. Don't be a stranger.
From 2011 to 2019 the Chris Robinson Brotherhood played hundreds of concerts. I have personally listened to several hundred of them. I have assisted in the mixing and bouncing of the shows, uploading them to nugs.... and I've been asked countless times to name my favorite shows. There is no way to name just one. I can name several I do love though.. Recently though I pulled 6 soundboards from 2016 I had not heard before. In that bundle, was what I would consider one of the top 3 CRB shows of all time. That show, is 4/19/16, from the Eureka Theater.
Muddy had left the band at this point, and Jeff was not on board until 6/3. So George Reiff was sitting in to handle the low end.
Where do I start? When you mention the best Grateful Dead show ever, you get debate over Veneta, or Cornell 77, or Fillmore East 1970...
For the CRB, this one is off the charts. Was it that Adam and Neal felt they had to step up for this near-hometown show, in the absence of a solid 3rd background vocalist to Chris? I don't know.
But the music is pure, unadulterated magic and mastery. Every jam is perfect. Every note played, was necessary. The vocals are beyond stellar. The jams, are atmospheric and stratospheric.
In the set, you have the VERY FIRST Forever as the Moon & The THIRD California Hymn.
I focus on intonation a lot. I like to hear songs evolve. These early incarnations, Neal sings so clearly but so differently, that they just ooze drip and weep with emotion. I have listened to this show at least 30 times in the last several weeks. Sometimes twice a day.
To encourage engagement on this post, listen to this show!! Then come back to THIS POST and share your thoughts. (If you don't have it, DM me) Would you rank this show as one of the best ever? Be detailed! 😊
If you've heard it already - comment your opinion on it!
Several photos are here from this show.

One of my favorite things to do is collect pictures from the CRB and side project bands from each of the shows. They're catalogued, tagged, put in folders, associated with the sound boards of that day.. and I'll revisit them often.
Putting them out there and seeing people enjoy them in an easy fashion, is the best reward though. There's about 25K photos in the archives now! Check them out!
I recently came across the soundboard from 7-19-14, at Targhee Music Festival 2014. I hadn't listened to this one ever before, as I don't tend to choose or favor the short 1-set shows. This one was a great surprise though. Great music with great energy. Check the set list, posted here among the pictures.
As for the pictures... as I was listening to the music I went back and looked and realized that there were no pictures from this date in the archive. About 40 minutes of searching back through instagram, scrolling back through feeds to 2014, and I was able to dig some up!
What a show! Appearances at the festival were made by CRB, Hard Working Americans, Nikki Bluhm, Tedeschi Trucks, Joan Osborne, Jackie Greene and so many more!
If you have more pictures from this show, in Alta, Wyoming.. please contact me, and I will send you some music to listen to in exchange!! 🙂
Coming up in under 1 week, I will be posting another show. The Grateful Dead has Cornell '77 recognized as one of their greatest shows. I will be posting about what I consider to be possibly the best CRB show I've ever heard... and I've heard almost all of them. Stay tuned! When you see which show, maybe you too will yell out some jubilant exclamation.. like....maybe..."Eureka!"
But much like this show, I have absolutely NO photos from this greatest of the greats. So I'll be calling on you... dig out those old flip phones, and those dusty blackberrys and track down a reader for your old memory sticks!

If you listen to Tales From The Golden Road on Sirius XM with @dgans53 and @legslambert... you may have heard me on air discussing this album. This was recorded in Joshua Tree, on a Tascam 388 that belonged to @jerrygarcia.
Such an incredible album, with great sound and energy throughout!!

12 Years ago today, 5 guys took the stage at the Echoplex to play their first live show together. Just over 8 years later their first incarnations would be put on the shelf, but what they left behind were hundreds of soundboards, thousands of images, and millions of smiles.
Photos from the early days of the band are difficult to come by as cell phones weren't as advanced as today. So as the Almanac continues to look for folks with pictures to share... please enjoy these from that first night.
Chris Robinson, Neal Casal, Mark Dutton, Adam MacDougall, George Sluppick. The Echoplex.
Contact me if you have pictures to share, from any show any year, if you have it, we want to archive it!
